UnderTone
A collection of short stories about people and everyday life; exploring subtle meetings, the underlying quality of suggestive actions, the whispering of messages in a bid to understand each other as well as another side of ourselves.
The composition in “UnderTone” is employing the strategies of Aleatoric music, in order to dramaturgically moderate the material, while still leaving some elements of the composition to chance. Aleatoric means dice and the method was used by contemporary composers like John Cage and Iannis Xenakis. The order of events is determined either by a process of random selection by the composer or by the performers’ choices. This diversifies and multiplies the possibilities of sequencing and gives dancers the freedom to be playful and enjoy making decisions during the performance.
Performed at THE PLACE Theatre, London, as part of Resolution! 2014
